John 15:9-17

One of the most misunderstood ideas in Christianity is what it means for a husband to “lead” his family.

Some people hear that and imagine a man who is dominant, controlling, demanding, or always gets the final say. But when Scripture tells husbands to love their wives, it points them to Jesus as the example.

How does Jesus treat the Church?

He serves.

He sacrifices.

He protects.

He forgives.

He shows patience.

He listens.

He encourages growth.

He lays down His own comfort for the good of those He loves.

Jesus NEVER used His authority to belittle, shame, intimidate, or control. He leads through love.

A husband is not called to be the boss of his household. He is called to be a servant leader who loves his wife so deeply that she feels honored, cherished, safe, and supported.

In John 15, Jesus says:

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

That is the model.

Not domination.

Not fear.

Not power trips.

Love. Honor. Protection. Sacrifice.

Religion is not a pass to be an awful person. If someone uses faith to justify cruelty, control, or emotional abuse, they are not following the example of Christ.

The leadership Jesus modeled was never about having power over others. It was about using your strength for the benefit of others
